GENERAL:
The Association will establish and maintain (subject to availability of funds) an Academic Financial Assistance Program to provide financial aid to descendants of current members of the 121 AVN Association. (NOTE: Descendants of adopted children of qualified veterans will also be eligible.) The number of awards for each year will be determined by the funds available to the Association for this purpose. Each award will be $500.00. There will be only one award per recipient per year, but a recipient may reapply each consecutive year.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. An applicant must be a high school senior or high school graduate with a minimum GPA of 3.0, or be enrolled as a full-time student in an institution of higher learning, and is maintaining a GPA of 3.0, or who has successfully completed a GED program of study and been awarded a diploma. Preference will be given to undergraduate applicants.
2. Applicants must have received a letter of acceptance from the education (or training) institution. For
colleges and universities, the applicant must carry a minimum of twelve (12) hours each semester. Applicants attending vocational/technical training institutions must pursue a course of study that requires a minimum of twenty-five (25) credit hours.
PROCEDURE:
1. The availability of funds and number of awards will be announced by the 1st of February each year.
2. Application forms and instructions will be provided by the Financial Assistance Chairman (FAC) at the
request of applicants.
3. Applications must be submitted to the FAC by the 31st of May each year.
4. If only one application is received, the applicant will receive the award if it is determined by the Trustees that all requirements with respect to eligibility and submission of all supporting documents have been met.
5. If more than one application is received, the FAC will examine each to verify all are complete with
all required attachments and that the applicant is qualified as an eligible recipient. He will then perform the following actions:
a. Make three copies of all applications and all documents attached thereto and file the originals.
b. Assign a coded identification number to each application and obliterate all information that would reveal the identity and location of each applicant, and the ancestor of the applicant.
c. Select three Association members to serve as evaluators and forward each a copy of all the applications.
6. The evaluators must remain anonymous, even among themselves. The evaluators will review the
applications and grade each with a numerical score between 70 and 99. They will then return the evaluated applications to the FAC.
7. The FAC will total the score of each applicant to determine the recipient(s) of the award and will
inform the other Trustees.
8. This information will be closely held until the applicants have been informed of the outcome, and all will be encouraged to reapply each consecutive year.
9. After public announcement of the winner(s), the Treasurer will prepare and send a check and a letter to the finance office of the educational institution indicating the funds are for the benefit of the recipient.
